Don’t Lock Yourself In; Be Ready For Change.

Years ago the following advice was given to young men and women seeking to become successful. The wisdom of that age said, “Put all your eggs in one basket and watch that basket.” The idea was to lock yourself in, find a secure niche, and stay there. They were told, “Whatever you do, stay with the job.” In the early 1900s through the 1970s, it was common to spend a whole career with one corporation. To stay with one corporation was to be responsible, to be a solid citizen of the community. However, beginning in the late 1970s the eggs-in-the-basket philosophy shifted 180 degrees.

The advice then turned to; do not put all your eggs in one basket. Be flexible. Watch for opportunities to move up the ladder of success, even if it means switching from one corporation to another. Still, no matter the route you choose, persistence will be required.
